Eligibility Requirements

Students must be promoted academically to the next grade not placed in the next grade in order to participate.

Students must have a current physical dated after April 1st on file at the school.

Students must have a signed COVID 19 signed consent form on file at the school.

Player Requirement

  • Gettys provides this football equipment: helmet, shoulder pads, practice pants, pads to go in pants, a mouthpiece, and game uniform.

  • Players will be required to purchase designated game cleats.

  • Practice every day after school: stretching will begin at 3:45, practice from 4-6pm.

  • Players are required to follow the school and team discipline policies at all times.

  • Players are subject to practice on Fridays after school.

  • Players will be required to wear khakis to school with jersey on game day.

  • Players are required to stay after school on game days (pre-game meals).

  • Players will not wear flashy sleeves or tights.

Team Goals

  1. Academic success: Excellent students who realizes there are no shortcuts to success.

  2. Life success: Character development in order to be productive young men outside of the classroom (B.R.E.A.K.E.R.S. philosophy).

  3. Football success: Practices with the purpose to improve each day.

Player Parent Assistance

  • We provide pre-game meals for all 8 games (If parents know of any local restaurants, who can donate meals, please let us know).

  • Parents will be asked to coordinate and serve pre-game meals.

  • Player parents/guardians/adults will be asked to work the chains at home games only. We will have a sign-up sheet for each home game.

  • Parents will be asked to assist with fundraising activities or submit ideas for fundraising opportunities.

Welcome back to another year of Gettys football as we are preparing for the 2022 season. Thank you to all families that were able to attend the parent-student meeting for football. For those that could not, you will find the meeting handout under the forms section.

Spring Practice and Summer Conditioning Schedule

For each practice or conditioning session students will need to bring:

- Water to last for a two hour workout

- A mouth piece

- Cleats and tennis shoes.

For students to participate in live conditioning students must have a physical dated after April 1 and a signed COVID 19 Informed Consent form and a signed Parent/Guardian Concussion Acknowledgement form turned in to Dr. Strickland. GMS Main Office is open 8:00-4:00 each day Monday through Friday for additional assistance.

Spring practice for rising 7th and 8th grade will be held on Brice Field at GMS on the following dates:

May 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, and 19.

Times are after school from 3:30 until 5:30.

Students must wear tee-shirt, shorts, and bring tennis shoes and cleats.

Students must have transportation home each day and must be picked up on time.

Summer Conditioning for rising 7th and 8th grade students will be held at Gettys Middle School from 5:30-7:00. Summer conditioning dates are:

June 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28, and 30.

July 12, 14, 19, and 21.

Students must wear tee-shirt, shorts, and bring tennis shoes and cleats.

Students must have transportation home each day and must be picked up on time.

Summer conditioning will include light lifting, body resistance exercises and cardiovascular conditioning.

 Spring practice and summer conditioning are not mandatory but are strongly encouraged.

Fall Practice (Required)

Fall practice begins on August 2 from 6:00 until 8:00 on Brice Field at Gettys Middle School. The timeline for fall practice:

August 2 – 12: tee-shirts, shorts and cleats/tennis shoes. (No contact)

August 15-17: Helmet and shoulder pads. (No contact)

August 18: Full pads and begin full contact.
