GMS Football Need To Know November:
Game Update: Gettys Middle will play Edwards Middle school in one combined game on Thursday November 12 at 5:30 at Liberty High School. The link to buy tickets for the game is:
We welcome our student athletes back to Gettys as we prepare for another GMS football season. Per SCHSL Return to Sports 2.0 on September 8 we will have a full return to sports for football. All students in grades 7 and 8 are welcome to attend practices.
We are using Hometown Ticketing for our ticket sales this season. No tickets will be sold at the gate. Families can use the link for ticket sales to purchase tickets for each game. The window for ticket sales will remain open through each game to allow families to make purchases when they are ready. The link to purchase tickets is under Athletics at Buy Tickets Online.
Practice times will be as follows:
Starting September 21 practice times will be Monday through Wednesday from 3:15 until 5:30pm. Friday practice will be determined by our coaching staff.
For each practice students will need to bring:
Water to last for a two hour workout
A mouth piece
Cleats and tennis shoes.
For students to participate in live conditioning students must have a physical dated after April 1 and a signed COVID 19 Informed Consent form and a signed Parent/Guardian Concussion Acknowledgement form turned in to Dr. Strickland. GMS Main Office is open 8:00-4:00 each day Monday through Friday for additional assistance.
August 17 (Phase 1.5)– Begin using shared equipment and helmets
Shoulder pads and Return to Sports 2.0 with no restriction to group size – September 8. At this time all equipment can be used during football work outs.

For rising 7th and 8th graders: must be promoted to the 7th or 8th grade, not placed.
Must have current physical dated after 4/1/20 to participate.
Must wear tee-shirt, shorts, and bring both tennis shoes and cleats.
Must have transportation to and from home each day (arrive and picked-up on time).
Begin on August 3rd from 6 to 8pm on Brice Field at GMS.
Aug 3-14: T-shirts/Shorts/Cleats/Tennis Shoes (none contact)
Aug 17- 19: Helmet & Shoulder Pads (none contact).
Aug 20: Full Pads (full contact).
7th grade will have walk through practices on Thursdays until 5:15.
7th grade games scheduled to play on Wednesday nights with start at 5:30/6:00.
8th grade games scheduled to be played on Thursday nights with start at 5:30/6:00.
Gettys provides this football equipment: helmet, shoulder pads, practice pants, pads to go in pants, a mouthpiece, and game uniform.
Players will be required to purchase designated game cleats.
Practice every day after school: stretching will begin at 3:45, practice from 4-6pm.
Players are required to follow the school and team discipline policies at all times.
Players are subject to practice on Fridays after school.
Players will be required to wear khakis to school with jersey on game day.
Players are required to stay after school on game days (pre-game meals).
Players will not wear flashy sleeves or tights.
Academic success: Excellent students who realizes there are no shortcuts to success.
Life success: Character development in order to be productive young men outside of the classroom (B.R.E.A.K.E.R.S. philosophy).
Football success: Practices with the purpose to improve each day.

Player Parent Assistance
We provide pre-game meals for all 8 games (If parents know of any local restaurants, who can donate meals, please let us know).
Parents will be asked to coordinate and serve pre-game meals.
Player parents/guardians/adults will be asked to work the chains at home games only. We will have a sign-up sheet for each home game.
Parents will be asked to assist with fundraising activities or submit ideas for fundraising opportunities.
