Coach Kevin Ferguson will return to serve as our head coach for boys basketball this year. In order to participate in try outs our athletes will need:

Tryout Dates and Times

  • Tryouts: Thursday 11/3, Friday 11/4 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Monday, 11/7 from 3:30-5:30 pm in GMS Gym

  • GMS will have separate grade level teams in basketball: a 7th grade team and 8th grade team. Head Coach is Kevin Ferguson and email is: Kevinferguson@pickens.k12.sc.us

  • Families should upload all required physical forms and documents to PlanetHS Big Teams website. If you already participated in a GMS/EHS fall sport this has been done. Instructions provided at https://drive.google.com/file/d/12pdWI7a1RUlcsrGfZ017yn8RCdoMnuDd/view?usp=sharing

  • Criteria for consideration of student athletes always includes satisfactory academic grades, attendance and behavior. In addition, tryout criteria that will be evaluated and used for team decisions will include: shooting, passing, ball handling, rebounding, defense, skill drills, competitive drills, coachability, team player, attitude and strength within position.

  • Team decisions provided to student: Monday, 11/7 and end of tryout period. Each player will receive individual envelopes at conclusion of last tryout date to be opened at home and if they did not make a team will be informed of deficient areas and ways to improve skills. 

  • Parent Meeting for GMS Team Members/Parents in GMS auditorium Tuesday, 11/8 at 5:30 pm. First game is 11/28.
