2016-17 Gettys Football

FALL TRYOUTS:

  • Begin on August 3rd from 6 to 8pm on Brice Field at GMS.
  • Participants are required to complete a Skills and Fitness Test to gauge player ability. The results will be the criteria used for cuts.
  • Returning 7th grade players are required to tryout (not guaranteed to make team)

PLAYER REQUIREMENT: If you make the team

  • Gettys provides this football equipment: helmet, shoulder pads, practice pants, pads to go in pants, a mouthpiece, and game uniform.
  • Players will be required to purchase designated game cleats, socks, 5-pad integrated girdle, and belt.
  • Practice every day after school: stretching will begin at 3:30, practice from 4-6pm.
  • Players are required to follow the school and team discipline policies at all times.
  • Players are subject to practice on Fridays after school.
  • Players are required to stay after school on game days (pre-game meals).
  • All games are scheduled for Thursdays and start at 6:00 (subject to change).
  • Games may be scheduled to play on Wednesday nights or start at 5:30.

TEAM GOALS: In order and cannot be out of balance

  1. Academic success: Excellent students who realizes there are no shortcuts to success.
  2. Life success: Character development in order to be productive young men outside of the classroom (B.R.E.A.K.E.R.S. philosophy).
  3. Football success: Practices with the purpose to improve each day.
  4. Learn to Have Fun.
  5. Win each game.
  6. Win CHAMPIONSHIP!

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Spring Practice

  • For rising 8th graders ONLY.
  • Must have physical dated after 4/1/16 to participate in Spring Practice.
  • Must wear tee-shirt, shorts, and bring both tennis shoes and cleats.
  • Must have transportation home each day (picked-up on time).

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Summer Conditioning and Tryouts

  • For rising 7th and 8th graders: must be promoted to the 7th or 8th grade, not placed.
  • Must have a current physical dated after 4/1/15 to participate.
  • Must wear tee-shirt, shorts, and bring both tennis shoes and cleats.
  • Must have transportation to and from home each day (arrive and picked-up on time).

SPRING PRACTICE AND SUMMER CONDITIONING:

  • Spring practice: benchmark physical condition and ability, learn terminology, skill development, and learn offensive and defensive schemes.
  • Summer conditioning: light lifting, body resistance exercises, and cardiovascular conditioning. 
  • Spring and summer conditioning are not mandatory but are strongly recommended!
  • Attendance to either DOES NOT guarantee your child will make the team.

PLAYER PARENT ASSISTANCE:

  • We provide pre-game meals for all 8 games (If parents know of any local restaurants, who can donate meals, please let us know).
  • Parents will be asked to coordinate and serve pre-game meals.
  • Player parents/guardians/adults will be asked to work the chains at home games only. We will have a sign-up sheet for each home game.
  • Parents will be asked to assist with fundraising activities or submit ideas for fundraising opportunities.
